Differentiation
Focus Student 504:
Sam will be allowed to use his iPad to write his reading response as well as read the play. Based on his interest he should have no problem reading. However he will be given extra time outside of class to write because his physical mobility slows this ability to write substantially.
Also, based on his interest in role playing game, Sam should take an interest in the Socratic seminar where they must examine the charters and their role in the story.
Focus Student ELL:
Lila is a student is a Spanish Speaker. Receiving content in Spanish, which in her native language helps her feel more comfortable. Since she prefers to work helping her be a part of group during the jigsaw of the readings will help her stay within her comfort zone. According to her readiness she will be placed in a group that has students whose primary language is Spanish as well as English. This way some students may want to express themselves in English which will help develop he English listening skills. In accordance to her learning profile having her be in a group and assigned to job makes her accountable for her work while belonging to a group.
Focus Student Lower Performing ADHD:
This student has been diagnosed with ADHD and as a result I have labeled her as a ‘special needs’ (SN) individual even though she does not have an IEP or 504. I still expect the student to meet the classroom CA Content Standards - 11.7.8 & 11.8.1 like the rest of the class, but I often have to check in with her to make sure she stays on task while her classmates are working. The student has almost no issues with keeping up with her classmates and if not for homework and notes she could easily be at the top of her class. She often finishes early and disrupts her classmates as they try to finish the assignments. For this lesson she will be able to work independently on a home computer to write their report or on her tablet in class. - As an ADHD student she tends to get off task very easily so if I allow the students to use their creativity and work in class on her tablet she will be more likely to stay on task showing off how creative she can be.
